4 Signs You Need An Electrician

4 Signs You Need An Electrician

Knowing when to call an electrician can be tough. As a homeowner, you don’t want to waste time or hard earned money. Likewise, the hassle that comes with finding a reputable company can be a lot. Here are 4 signs that you need to call an electrician for your electrical repairs.

Resetting Circuit Breakers or Changing Fuses Often

When you find yourself changing your fuses or resetting breakers frequently, you might need to seek a professional. Circuit breakers can trip for a number of reasons.

  • Overload- This is relatively common in electrical systems that need maintenance. Resetting constantly is not an ideal situation.
  • Short Circuit- These can happen for multiple reasons. Short circuits can be hard to fix and diagnose
  • Ground Fault- Ground faults happen when a wire comes in contact with the ground or metal surrounding it. These are especially dangerous due to electrocution and fire.

Any of these reasons can indicate a need for a professional inspection or repair. It would be wise not to ignore this sign.

We know how you feel! Repairs, especially electrical, can come out to be pretty pricey and time consuming. Nonetheless, living with an electrical system that is not working properly is a pain.

Although it can be frustrating to consider all these factors, there comes a time when calling a professional electrician is the way to go. In our line of work, we receive questions about when to seek electrical help rather frequently. When you don’t know when its out of your hands, look for these common signs.

Air Conditioner and Lights Dim in the Room

This happens for a number of reasons. Usually, the wiring in the home is faulty and needs to be replaced. Older wiring is usually the culprit here. When you call a professional electrician, they might suggest putting in new wires.

This would greatly improve the connection of your electricity from the source to the lighting. Christian Brothers provides many electrical repair services for your home.

Smell Electrical Burning

This is more of an obvious sign. Electrical burning odor indicates a malfunction most of the time and should be handled by a licensed electrician. The burning smell, and maybe even some smoke, is a result of faulty wiring, outlets, or electrical cords. Either way, it is always a good idea to call a professional to take a look. This could also possible be a dangerous situation.

When You Have Multi Plug Strips in One Outlet

Do you need to plug multiple devices into one outlet? This is a tell tale sign that your electrical system might need a few adjustments. If you have outlets that are malfunctioning regularly or simply not working, call an electrician as soon as possible.

Should I Replace Or Repair My Electrical Panel?

Should I Replace Or Repair My Electrical Panel?

When struggling with whether to replace or repair your electrical panel, you might end up in the dark. In recent years, it seems like replacing something is always easier than repairing something.

Whether it’s a phone screen with a crack, a scratch on a bumper, or the electrical panel for your home, the answer tends to be the same. “It’d be easier just to get a new one.” Although this may be true, the replacement always comes with a price, and it is hardly ever very low. Do you know your Electrical system? And, does it need repair?

Sparing yourself the costs of a new electrical panel, you could attempt a repair. Surely this would save you some cash. In the long run, however, it may not be worth it.

When determining this decision, it can be hard to decide what is best for you and your family. At Christian Brothers, we want to provide you with as much information as possible before making this choice. This is why we’ve compiled a list of signs indicating whether to replace or repair your electrical panel.

Dimming or Flickering Lights

This usually indicates a need to replace your electrical panel. Excluding blackouts and dimmer switches, there is no reason why your lights should be dimming. Outdated panels tend to cause dimming and flickering due to the sheer age of the parts in the system.

If you notice your lights dimming when you use the microwave or blow dryer, feel free to give us a call. We can have an expert technician inspect your panel to determine if it can produce enough electricity for your home.

Panel is Warm.

A replacement may be necessary if your electrical panel is warm to the touch. If you noticed this is the case, or you smell burning around the panel, it could be exposed wiring inside. This can sometimes be a very dangerous situation for you and your family due to the threat of a possible fire. To ensure you are safe, you may need to install a new electrical panel.

However, a warm panel doesn’t automatically mean you’ll need a new system. An experienced expert level electrical professional can determine whether or not to replace or repair, and explain in further detail.

Failed Circuit Breakers

Are you concerned that you might have a failed circuit breaker in your home? Failed circuit breakers in your electrical panel most likely indicate a repair is necessary. Put in place to stop the flow of electricity, breakers prevent overload in your system. When one of them fails, it typically just needs to be replaced by a professional. In this scenario, replacing the panel is unnecessary.

Regularly Tripping Circuit Breakers

Circuit breakers that trip once or twice on an occasional basis are usually fine. Every now and then, a tripped breaker needs a quick panel reset to start functioning properly again. This is a normal occurrence.

However, if this happens on a regular basis, replacing the electrical panel may be the only fix. Homes that are a bit older tend to have this problem more than newer ones because of the change in standards over the years. This may lead to a need for breaker panel repair or replacement. Older systems may struggle to produce enough electricity for all the electricity needs of the home, thus leaving you with a need to upgrade.

With any of these issues, please give us a call! We have technicians fully trained and licensed to provide excellent repairs while giving outstanding customer service. Don’t be in the dark, give us a call at (623) 499- 9794.

Tips for UV Safety Awareness Month

Tips for UV Safety Awareness Month

July is Ultraviolet (UV) Rays Safety Awareness Month. Never expose your skin to unsolicited sunlight attention without sunscreen protection and uv safety. Make a pledge to yourself to protect your skin from UV damage.

electricianProlonged UV Exposure

Every time you go outside during daylight hours, you are exposed to UV rays. A quick walk down the driveway to the mailbox probably won’t do any short term damage. But prolonged exposure can have several consequences:

  • Sunburn: Red, peeling skin is uncomfortable and unattractive.
  • Skin damage: Sun exposure can learn to wrinkles, premature aging, and unwanted freckles.
  • Skin cancer: Sunburn and sun exposure have been linked to skin cancer.

How can I keep from getting burned?

Avoid direct sunlight to your skin by:

  1. Sunscreen. Experts recommend using at least Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30-50 and applying 15 minutes before going outdoors. Remember that sunscreen loses its effectiveness after 2 hours (Always read the direction). Make sure to bring sunscreen when you are planning a day outside.
  2. Protective Clothing. Wide-brimmed hats can protect the delicate skin on your face. Some clothing has built-in SPF protection. Don’t forget SPF-rated sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  3. Shade. The best way to block the sun is to stay out of the sun during the hot times. Spend some time under a tree, canopy, or bring an umbrella.

What’s the hottest time of day?

While the sun is highest in the sky at noon, the hottest time of the day is actually around 3:00 p.m. During summer, sunlight is most intense between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Remember that even on a cloudy day, UV rays can still cause skin damage and even sunburn. Sometimes the best way to protect yourself on a hot summer day is to relax with a cold drink inside your climate-controlled environment.
